Floor time and water babies

A few days ago Z clutched his hand to his forehead in a dramatic fashion, and I said Oh Rose Thou Art Sick and he said Karma's gonna get you and lo and behold yesterday I found myself sapped of vitality and verticality as sure as a puppet with its strings cut. So I resorted to lying down on the floor being amiably chewed and prodded by the felines and the under 3s while the walls breathed and the floorboards tilted gently one way and then the other.

As an illness it wasn't really unpleasant so much as incompatible with with all the feeding, taming and pressganging of children into toothbrushing that was required, so reinforcements were called in and this months daily blogging ended with a literal whimper.

Matei at bedtime to Z: "Don't worry Daddy, one day I'm going to eat a lot and grwo really big and strong and then you won't need to keep me company until I fall asleep because I won't be scared anymore."

The baby is perfectly able to roll from her stomach onto her back, but chooses not to most of the time and seems to prefer stationary entertainment like warbling and chirping and studying her hands like a stoner.

She also has the uncanny ability to sleep through the sounds of partying and hoovering and her brother's motorbike imitations, but startles from an apparently sound sleep the moment warm water hits the bathtub three rooms away. Good girl that she is though, it turns out to be less a case of "Mother, remain UNCLEAN" as of "A bath you say? How lovely. I think I will join you."

And it turns out that the only thing more fun than a prolonged solitary soak is turning your body into a hammock for a three month old, while she kicks and coos in delight and then falls asleep on your belly all pink and warm and blissed out.

It is so delightful that you've cloned yourself! I can't get over it!

And so responsible too! If the world only had people like Z and Matei in it they would just break it from jumping up and down on it too hard, or dissecting it to see how it was made together, or what happens when you crash it into a tree.

Thank God there's you and me and her to restore the balance and keep the place in order.

I'm expecting some teenage Leonine DRAMAHS as she gets older, but for now she is the most delightful child imaginable.
