A couple of my friends are musicians and they helped collaborate and perform on a CD of songs for children. They gave me a copy of the CD as a gift, and I;ve been listening to it.

And my God, I don't understand the idiots that think this is the stuff children should be absorbing.

For fuck's sake, it made me want to cry.

There's a fairly amusing one about a rabbit with a speech impediment that's a result of his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a few sweet ones, about dragon loving her child no matter how ugly it is, and an amusing *gothicky* one about vampires throwing a party and being debauched but most of them are heavy on the suicidal, tragic and depressive elements.

Eg. There was once a Wolf

This is a song about a wolf who was sincere in his good intentions and genuinely good. This wolf has a wonderful heart, he was gentle and compassionate, he wanted to befriend both dogs and people, he loved everyone including goats and sheep.

The problem is that no one realises this and everyone assumes the wolf to be evil and bad.

So one day the wolf goes to talk to the men, and speak to them of his visions of greater peace and love, to tell them he wishes them no evil, and what happens?

Some watchmen see him and shoot him.

And the worst thing is, not only is the wolf now dead but because no one realised that he wasn't evil in the first place, no one is sorry he was killed.

Then there is the song about the king who loved a washerwoman and when she rejects his love he abandons his crown and his throne and throws himself into the river and drowns. Or the one about the court fool who is mourning the fall of kings and the death of anyone who loved him, or needed him and the happy times of feeling loved as he wanders the world jobless and penniless and hungry.

Or the song my other friend performs that is basically the mourning chant of a fallen cowboy. THere are two cowboys, Reed and Kid, who were very close but now Kid is dead, lying in a swamp and Reed is trying to convince him to get up, to come back.

-Get up, Kid!
-I can't, Reed.
-Animate your blood!
-The worm won't let me.
-Breathe again¬!
-The dust won't let me.

(and then Reed launches into reminiscing about the great songs they sang, the wild times they had, about the woman they met in the saloon who was drawn to both of them and then ended up killing herself out of love or out of fear)

Remember Kid!
-I can't, Reed.
-You were hot!
-Now only a corpse.
-You were powerful!
-Now decomposing.

and so on. But Reed is still in denial, and is fervently trying to make Kid believe that the good times are not over yet.

-We will shoot again, Kid, we haven't for a long time.
-We won't be able to because I am horizontal.
-They will hear again, good Kid, the thunder of our guns.
-THey won't, I sleep the forever sleep.

and the crux:
-We will find, a cure with the shaman
-Too late, only the mud cures me now.

and then the incresinly desperate (and unbalanced) Reed tries again with the *Please get up Kid* routine, to no avail. Kid is not only dead, but apparently deeply depressed and nihilistic also.

-Get up Kid!
-I can't Reed. (etc.)
-You were terrific, ruddy and fine!
-Oh nevermore. Oh, nevermind.

if you run "Jonathan King" or some variation on that spelling,
through google, you can see what pop moguls are really like

Lick a Smurf for Christmas. Good God. If they let him off for child abuse that should be an arrestable offence right there.
