Guessing Signs

I'm in love with astrology, and one of my hobbies in learning it is to try and guess the charts of people whose charts I don't know from the things they say in their LJs.

So
tubewalker I'd expect to have something prominent in Cancer or Pisces and a well aspected Moon. Other prominent featurs of the chart may be a strong Neptune or a Taurus/Libran aspect (appreciation of music, beauty, harmony, good food).

dubaiyan I'd hypothesise has either an *afflicted* Sun - probably 12th house (thereby also giving her a Virgo Ascendant which I can see in the fine craft of her writing) or perhaps a Sun-Saturn.

voiceofsauron I'd expect to have a very prominent Saturn - the post about viewing the world in terms of risk assessment strikes me as very Saturnian.

and I'd be stunned if norantiskitchen didn't have a strong/well-aspected Mercury with her love of words and language. She's always struck me as forthright and fiery and energetic in an Arien way, but I wouldn't be surprised by a Virgo Ascendant or Moon.

twistedserious on the other hand eludes me, as I know she was born right on the cusp of Virgo and Libra and I can see both Virgoan and Libran traits in her although I think I'm leaning slightly more towards Libra.

mindslant I do not know well enough to really make a solid guess, but I'm leaning towards something in Scorpio and a Cancer or 4th House sun.

And I'm willing to bet that hoshuteki is either a Libra or has a hefty stellium there based on his suave entries, appreciation of Cointreau and the nice and classic way of dressing.

I know the miss_newham of the purple hair is a Pisces, but I'm also leaning towards the presence of a Gemini Ascendant or Moon.

elethe I would bet has either a promiment sixth house, or a Sun/Moon in Virgo and probably a dash of Leo through the natal chart.

Anyway, you're all fascinating individuals, your LJs fascinate me and I love being both right and wrong provided I can learn from the experience, so anyone who wouldn't mind me doing their chart and knows their birth details (time, place and date of birth) please leave me a comment saying so.

interesting chart.
Sun in Cancer conjunct Jupiter, Moon in Gemini, Ascendant Scorpio with Uranus on the Ascendant.
Scorpio Ascendant- keywords for Scorpio are power, secrecy, the hidden, the shadow. With a Scorpio ascendant (and a Cancer Sun) this makes you a very emotional person, with a great depth and intensity of feeling. You are probably drawn towards that in life which is secretive and hidden and like a forensics person you want to explore this shadow side, and are attracted by it.

You are probably rather secretive, and screen people thoroughly before letting them into your world - prefer watching to being perceived.

Ultimately Scorpio (and Pluto, and the 8th House) is about power and transformation, destruction and re-birth and in order to use these energies creatively it is best if they are harnessed rather than dissipated in paranoia, jealousy and posessiveness.

Uranus on the Ascendant - very often this makes a person seek out perfection, and people can be ruthless while seeking it because Uranus gives a great conviction of one's vision being as Truth, as well as capacity for great clarity of vision (interestingly many dictators seem to have Uranus Ascending, most famously Hitler).

With Scorpio rising, deep emotional invovlement and intimacy is important, as is maintaining emotional security. You are likely to feel motivated to explore and plumb the depths of your own emotional spectrum- everything from love to hate.

Sun Jupiter- Jupiter enlarges whatever it touches, and when it touches the Sun (one's own sense of identity) it leads to people who can seem larger-than-life imbued with an innate sense of optimism and ability to go happy-go-lucky skipping around the world with a conviction that bills will somehow pay themselves and everything will work out in the end. ;) From a positive side - Jupiter conjunct Sun in Cancer can make you a very generous, big hearted, caring person from the downside it can make you overextend yourself, and overestimate yourself, as well as be foolish, rash, gamble and so on.

Gemini Moon- Gemini is about communication and the Moon is your own inner nature, and therefore your sense of security probably is tied into feeling like you can talk with somebody.

That's just a few highlights, but if you want me to go into more depth I'm happy to do that.

Yo, do mine, I'll pay you and am getting curious.

My parents and Mike are all Geminis, does that have anything to do with anything?

Very often same combinations of signs run in families and if you find yourself persistently around people with similar sort of astrological aspects then very likely they are reflecting something in your own chart. :)

I'd love to do your chart it would be very interesting and you can pay me by feeding me ;) do you (or your mother) know your time of birth?

you are fascinating :)
I've got a few hunches and guesses but your LJ is a fairly recent addition to my f-list, but so far I've got

*In terms of sun sign Pisces (as you seem rather tenderhearted and sensitive) or Libra (or the Sun in the 7th House) because your relationships seem very important to you.

I also lean towards a Virgo Ascendant because you often strike me as self-effacing, and rather exacting of yourself.

thank you for sending me all that music! but alas I haven't been able to listen to it properly yet because my computer has been playing funny buggers.
so I'm waiting for a freind to mess around with it a bit and make it all better.

I did rather like mine, with all the planets stuffed into (I think) Gemini. But it's the mother-as-devourer thing that keeps making me giggle. When she tried to convince me I should be flying back to Ireland every three weeks or so, I didn't freak out - I smiled and thought of you :)

You're a fairly recent LJ pal so I haven't yet formed a very solid opinion but I'm thinking that your LJ has a very *airy* feel to it, and I'd guess your natal chart would feature Libra and/or Aquarius (particularly as you seem to like kite flying, and doing some quirky things like keeping moths as pets).

just curious...
Assuming astrology has a spiritual/magical basis why isn't the moment of conception more important than birth?

And how subject to the exact time is it? Do you need to know the time of birth to within a minute, ten minutes, an hour? And does the reading just get fuzzier with inaccurate times or could an hour's difference in time make a *lot* of difference in the reading?

Re: just curious...
Oooooooh questions and good ones too! Thank you, I love questions.

Assuming astrology has a spiritual/magical basis why isn't the moment of conception more important than birth?

This is just my theory of course, but I think birth is more important than conception because at birth you are entering into your own individual, independent life. Before then you are part of your mother - although interestingly often aspects to the moon in the natal chart may describe something of the person's pre-birth experience.

Also I'd guess because the moment of birth is much easier to pinpoint then the moment of conception.

And how subject to the exact time is it? Do you need to know the time of birth to within a minute, ten minutes, an hour? And does the reading just get fuzzier with inaccurate times or could an hour's difference in time make a *lot* of difference in the reading?

The more exact time, the better. The time of birth is used to calculate the Ascendant (the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth) and the ascendant shifts roughly one degree every four minutes. The Ascendant also determines how the houses of a chart are going to be calculated (the houses describe all the different spheres of a persons's life starting from 1st house - the Self- to 2nd House Values and posessions and so on right through to the 12th which is the house of the dissolution of the Self, the merging with the big all. Kind of if you imagine the symbolic journey of a waterdrop emerging as itself, and then eventually coming back to meld and rejoin the ocean.) That's the house system in very brief as I don't want to bore you but I'd be happy to explain it in more detail if you are interested/curious.

The placement of houses and the angles of the chart (the ascendant, and descendant and the sun's zenith and nadir) are pretty significant in colouring the placement of planets and their prominence and interpretation. So the more inaccurate the time of birt the wider the margin of error for calculating the houses and te placement of the planets in them = less accurate the interpretaion (and even an hour can make a lot of difference, particularly if during that hour the ascendant changes signs).

Also it depends on the type of reading - forms of forecasting such as progressions can become very very badly skewed as there a degree represents a symbolic year.

Well, that's very perceptive since I am a Libra, not that it means much to me, being so ignorant to the ways of astrology. But for what it's worth, you are more than welcome to divine anything you wish about me: you can find my birthdate in my userinfo, and my place of birth is Edinburgh.

There was a marvellous anti-astrology rant in the Guardian yesterday courtesy of the wonderful Lucy Mangan.

Thanks for the heads-up, I checked out the article and I must say she's very funny and amusing.

I don't mind the fact that many people don't believe in astrology, the only thing that irks me is that many people dismiss it out of hand without ever really bothering to find out about the subject (in the same way as I'd get irked by say people who equate radical Muslims with Islam).

In terms of your sign... my hypothesis would be you are an earth sign based on the fact that your LJ has an earth sign feel (I can explain what I mean in more detail but I don't want to bore you), and at a push I'd guess you were a Capricorn. Mostly this is because you seem to have a very solid system of values/rights/wrongs, seem to favour belief in the concrete, seem very sensible and have some fine threads of self-deprecating humour running through the things you say.

Even if you aren't a Capricorn, I'd still guess that you'd have a strong Saturn in the chart (on one of the angles, particularly the Ascendant, or forming a very close aspect to the Sun or Moon). In terms of Ascendant I'd guess you were a Gemini because the majority of people who write (or want to write) for a living seem to have Gemini rising.

I think you probably did a birthday post recently because in my head you're filed under *Sagittarius*. ;) So to feign ignorance would be cheating, which I am loath to do - but I'd guess that other parts of your chart probably feature an Aries Moon or Ascendant or at the very least a prominent Mars.

However, these I can only verify if I draw up an actual chart - would you like me to do this and do you know your time of birth?

It can be very fun and I think that's one of the best things about it :)

As far as I'm concerned one of the greatest things about being human is being able to use our brains to think and question and anyone who isn't skeptical towards things probably isn't paying attention. I embrace and welcome skepticism as much as I frown on closed-mindedness and hostility.

I seem to remember you as a Libra, maybe because I read about a birthday post of yours or summat like that - but really I wouldn't know where to begin to guess (the people I tend to be able to hypothesise about astrologically tend to have very prolific LJs so it becomes easier to form a picture of their personalities).
