Luau party to end them all

Earlier on in the day, tjej and I went bra-shopping in the T.K. Maxx in Leyton and I was delighted to find bras which actually fit me and are all pretty and everything (oh tk.maxx you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind). I feel reborn as a woman, although due to reasons of public decency i won't be posting pictures.

And then we gaily scampered off into Stratford, to feed me and prepare for the Luau party, being hosted by the talented misstjej and the impeccably festive miss_newham.
Apparently, true luau parties are about celebrations of the moon, and folk sit on beaches with yon guitars, although pah! to that I say. Obviously, if they haven't got pineapples decorated with tiny mirrorball baubles, they can't hold a candle to events that do contain such things and much much more besides.

My contribution was to go wild in the kitchen and mull wine in a curious recipe that was a cross between Delia Smith's advice on the matter and the way that the crazy Eastern Europeans do it. Although I warned people to drink at their own risk, they all tucked in merrily and seemed pleased with the result which warmed my own little heart right up, even more than my concotions did.

Since tjej can play every instrument in the world, and has most of them in her house, and there were lots of songbooks and SingStar enthusiasts present the evening rapidly took off on a musical note. I didn't know the tunes or the words to most things (which has never stopped me singing) but I was able to belt out hearty contributions to "Let me show you the world", "The Beauty and the Beast", "Don't Cry for me Argentina", and "Jacob and Sons" (though all the colours in the multi-coloured coat eventually stumped me). kesstrel sounds like an angel, and anyone who hasn't had a chance to hear her sing yet should do because it's a glorious experience.

An evening of joy all around really, and you can see

The finder of the almond in the rice cake and the subsequent winner of the marzipan pag

bluedevi being merry, and verlaine concentrating on drawing holiday themed things

Carlsberg don't make St. Lucias, but if they did, they'd probably be the best St. Lucias in the world

Confused singing along to Danish carols in Danish

verlaine being a mermaid

mulled wine mulling merrily

miss_newham making luau garlands

the centerpiece: the gorgeous festive pineapple

The singalong to Danish Tunes with people who actually knew how to pronounce the words

more merriness and gaiety induced by wine, tinsel and legwarmers

looks fun; Cathi & I looked at our watches at 10pm in town, considered the 7am alarm this morning, and went for a pint (or two) with Robb in Waterloo instead. Mind you, I would only have said something crass as usual if I had been there... ;-(

A crass comment from you is a rosy compliment in anyone else's book. So there!
Dec. 18th, 2004 01:47 pm (UTC)
no, it just depresses me and makes everyone think I'm an arse. which I am...
Dec. 18th, 2004 02:38 pm (UTC)
only an arse of the most genteel sort. ;)

it may be debatable how much crassness suits you simon, but you're a great guy.

Not in my book. You have a standing invite to every luau we will ever have.

Is she weird, is she white, is she promised to the night?
The caption to the St Lucia picture is brilliant.

Also, you should come and sing more at Casee's place. I have the singing bug now, and sounds like you're coming down with it too!

I've been in its throes all day, to the delight of my neighbours no doubts.

Also, you should come and sing more at Casee's place.
I will :D
Especially now that I have her phonenumber, and all that wild singing bohemia shall no longer escape me.

indeed you can (although to be honest ones in my size are less of a challenge). :)
and they're pretty and everything.
Now do you see why it is imperative for you to come back?

Sounds like a plan to me!

I too found bras that fit yesterday. they were worth the money i paid, and they have matching pants, yay! :o)

ah....that looks fun.....i wish i could sing (well at least, i wish i could sing in a way that makes others want to listen!)
Dec. 18th, 2004 06:23 pm (UTC)
I'm told ability to sing is not mandatory, just enthusiasm. :)
kesstrel is going to be organising a singing thing at hers at some point, i think.
Dec. 18th, 2004 07:52 pm (UTC)
ahhh...pathological shyness combined with not knowing any of you will likely prevent me from going anywhere near that. singing in my car is my limit these days....

We should know you. When you're ready - it took me about six months to work up the courage to meet internet people. Though if you see a post saying PUB! then come!
Dec. 18th, 2004 11:15 pm (UTC)

it's not that i don't want to....it's just...the fear, y'know...and feeling outnumbered by people who already get on really well....i mean, what if you all turned out, en masse, to hate me?!

paranoid, moi?!
Dec. 18th, 2004 11:22 pm (UTC)
Paranoid much! I am quite stroppy but don't have it in me to hate anyone. And rainsinger is the nicest lady ever. But I know the fear, yes, it takes a while to shake it off. When you're ready, come out and play!
Dec. 19th, 2004 12:08 am (UTC)
haha...yeah, hate may have been a bit strong a word.....i really just meant.....'not like much or want to hang out with' but that takes longer to type!

it's not that i haven't met internet friends before...josiejo was my first, many years ago.

i'm scared of new people wherever they come from but i'm sure i'll pluck up courage to come and play soon.
