Children Dream of Ragnarok.

"Good morning, Matei!"
"Good morning, Mummy!"
"Did you have nice dreams?" M nods and snuggles with me. "What did you dream of?"
"A road. And the Sun."
"Oh lovely. And then what happened?"
"There was a BAM! And then darkness came."
"Oh dear."
"And then the DARKNESS ate the Sun. And then came THE WOLF."*

*Largely thanks to some stellar improvised parenting decisions from his father ("Matei! Get off the pavement and stop crying, otherwise THE WOLF will hear you and come and eat your dummy!"), Matei has become obsessed with wolves and now constantly wants to know where is the wolf? Is it in the house? Behind the tree? Hiding in the wardrobe? When is the wolf coming? I don't know whether he is afraid or just curious because he has started trying to bait the wolf by leaving him a trail of dummies to 'come and eat' and then hiding behind the bed to wait for the wolf.

You should get him (or, rather, yourselves) Neil Gaiman's excellent The Wolves in the Walls.

I actually thought of that, because I love that book, and then I realised that my life would consist of Matei pointing to every wall and every sound of neighbours for the unforseeable future and demanding whether that was a wolf.

Then I guess seeing that new Wolf Man movie is out of the question! (just joking-it's too intense even for big kids).

I doubt there are wolves to be found in London, save for the plush variety and at the zoo.

Haha, yes, Wolfman is definately on a list of banned featuers (although I rather want to see it). I remember watching American Werewolf in London as a child, while under the lax (or sadistic) judgement of a visiting Russian cousin and it terrified me unbelievably amounts. I couldn't go to sleep properly for months. On the other hand, my very own mother took me to see Jaws in 3D when I was 8 years old so perhapst my family enjoy traumatising me.
