Hmmmmmmmm.

My hormones are more out of whack then I thought. I realised this earlier when I doublechecked the blood tests.

THe normal levels of prolactin are between 72 and 511mlU/ml. I read my results as 287. In fact they are 827. Whooops.

Some jump. (especially considering last time it was 237).
I had a feeling this was probably not good, considering the haste with which medical professionals wanted me to have more blood tests and speak with the endocrinologist.

Prolactin is the hormone which stimulates the production of breast milk after childbirth, but seeing how I have not had a child and have no use for milk its presence in my body is abnormal.

One of its side effects is that it may make me infertile by stopping ovulation (this does not bother me a great deal as I am not that keen on children, although I appreciate I may feel differently some years down the line).

What's got the quacks worked up is why this hormone is suddenly here in such high levels. One possibility is stress, another is that the thyroid is not working properly and the third one is that there is a tumour on the pituitary gland.

Yippeee.

I will know more later, after further blood tests to check thyroid function and possibly an MRI if they think the possibility of a tumour is valid and real.

hello
chanced across this (you guessed it, idly inputting words into the search box - how often does it come up with someone you actually 'know'?!)

I won't come back here if it's private, just wanted to let you know you're in my thoughts.

*good vibes to Yug*
