Z and I did a test run of putting up the birthpool and experimenting with the unearthly forces necessary to keep the cats away from it.

Behold our mastery with plastic! Quake before our parenting know-how!

And now, here is a list of ways in which Pregnancy Has Not Ruined My Life:

1) The hair upon my head has never been fuller or glossier.

2) My skin is softer and smoother than its ever been.

3) Before getting knocked up I had been blessed with follicularity of the legs normally seen on wolves. However, the changes in hormones evidently needed to keep a baby alive have meant that hair I waxed off stayed away. I am for the first time of my adult life enjoying perfectly smooth pins with no effort on my part. This having children lark might be worth it just for that.

Damn, I'd have had my legs waxed months ago if I'd known that. It definitely doesn't work that way with shaving although I'm told that watching someone who can't see what she's doing trying to shave her thighs is a sight to behold!

Ouch! (potentially at least)
I think I entertained my environs plenty with my attempts to put on shoes in the last couple of months.

How do you get in? Is there a winch?

You climb over the sides cautiously, and with some grunting. Thankfully I have long legs.

I think some kind of winch might be needed to haul my ass out of it though. Good thing Z keeps himself in shape.

Are you going to actually give birth in it, or is it to ease the labour pains?

I'm just wondering how you're going to get the water out.

Hoping to give birth in it, if things go smoothly enough.

There's a hose for filling it and a separate hose and pump for emptying it. :)

Ah, good. I was envisaging Z emptying buckets of 'rather messy' water after the event.
Where 'rather messy' is the polite way of putting it...

If the worst comes to worst, and the pump thing fails I will tell him to think of it as a test of manliness and fertiliser for the garden...

I couldn't help but giggle at the thought of you getting into and out of that thing successfully!
Good luck with the baby-ing :D how long now?

It's not officially due until the 27th, but we'll see whether my wailings of "Really, you're welcome anytime! Waiting until term is so outdated!" are going to have any effects.

Wow, that's really cool. You have loads of room to move about and it looks as if having the sides to cling to/brace yourself against will be really helpful. You look very well prepared!

I feel excellent. On the other hand poor Z is all "Please God let my wife give birth easily to a healthy child. And please, please, please don't let that thing giant tub spring a leak." I have visions where I'll be in full throes of Trying To Bring Life Into The World and he'll be all "Er, my love? Maybe don't lean back quite so hard.... I'm a bit worried about one of the pillars..."

wow, I am in awe of people who do birthpools!

Also,

4) Thank goodness the hair on your head hasn't disappeared and the hair on your legs isn't at its fullest and glossiest.

That would have been terrible indeed. Although on the positive side - probably quite warm.

Oooh, impressive birth pool! It's been lovely reading about your pregnancy. I hope the birth goes as smoothly and painlessly as possible.
