various GLEES

Yesterday: Z and I are curled up on the sofa in a complex and somewhat precariously balanced tangle of arms and legs and hind ends. He has to keep an arm firmly around me to prevent me from tumbling off the sofa onto the floor. In between me pretending to be a trapeze artist suspended high above the world, we are watching Awakenings on TV.

N: full of sop If you were nonresponsive, or in a coma, I would visit you every day and keep saying 'Come back to me'.

Z: If you were in a coma I'd waft fried bacon strips under your nose and then sit and eat them until you woke up.

N: Alternatively you could just curl up next to me and snore. I'm sure that would rouse me promptly.

AMAZINGLY, thanks to the magical power of the internet and my very rare last name, my half-brother whom I have not seen or spoken to in about 20 years has found and emailed me. He lives in America. I am very excited about this, as I'd accepted the thought that I'd likely never se him again. Thank God Al Gore invented bringing families together.

********************************************************************

LASTLY, I went for an ultrasound this morning and the Host Organism is a boy*! One of the midwives led us on a dizzying tour of all his internal organs (all present and accounted for, and in fine working order) and my favourite moment was when the baby's hand movements made it seem like it was waving at us.

*Of course this is what intuition has been saying pretty much since conception, but it's nice to be right and win bets.

Being right is glorious. Although also a slgiht shame, since girl clothes are so much cuter generally. I may have to start dressing my son as Bob the Builder from birth to counteract this.

I used to think girl clothes were better, but there are some oh so gorgeous outfits for baby boys. Also, added bonus, you won't need to stick a stupid headband or flower on the baby's head to get everyone to realise the sex!

I hope they stick a toy digger on his head instead!

That could be the start of a new line in baby accessories...

I was amazed by how different boy/girl clothes are and how strange it feels when you see a boy in slightly girly clothes (tillytilly does this, saving money by using her older daughter's clothes on her baby son). The key to good boy-dressing is to eschew the chavvy crap. Do excuse my phrasing.

I have asked Romany if she wants to knit the baby subversive pink hats.

I actually hope he'll be a little bit like my friend's son whose favourite colours are pink and purple and who therefore gets a number of clothes from the girl side of the shops.

Do you know what you will call him? You intend to name him after me, right? Angelo? Actually I knew a guy from Bulgaria named Angel, pronounced Ahhn-gyell, so that might be the sort of thing you should go for.

Aww, how sweet that you're naming the baby after me! You and Z are really lovely ;)

Call the boy Valentino, and let that be an end to the matter.

I think Hector-Angel-Valentino has a certain ring to it.

You say yay for making new boys now, but who knows how many people I'll need to apologise to during his teenage years. ;)

Shopping is so much easier with a boy. "OK, it fits", and you're done. Girls (at least my girl) have to make sure each outfit is Juuuuust right, and don't get me started on shoe shopping.

My son in utero didn't wave; he looked like he was flipping us off.

Congratulations on both counts!

A boy! Hooray! I've been waiting impatiently for one of my friends to have a boy! In a few years' time, can I take him for rides on the DLR? Also, your pregnant stomach looks like my usual one, so please stoppit.
