love is....painting the kitchen wall
Originally uploaded by rainsinger.

What my skillfull husband did at 11pm on Monday night after I persuaded him that it was indeed a good idea, despite all his misgivings and my mother's observations ("It looks like a slaughterhouse").

It is a burden being a visionary. Also I think I am aging, for it is more tiring now to bend people to my will.

And now some obligatory observations upon the nature of the Day of The Beast The Valentine.

I never really got into celebrating Valentine's Day. We didn't do any such thing back in the Olde Country what with our stern socialist ways (where only the eternal love for Tito is the valid love) and I didn't come across it until University where I cam to associate it with only the worst of things (house being festooned with hearts, excessively loud sex from housemate next door, excessive drama from the housemate who was always having Boy Drawmah! shortly beforehand setting off a trainwreck of events that invariably involved some combination of her moving on via binge drinking/shagging the wrong people/vomiting in the kitchen sink). I was always single so my objections had the ring of bitterness and once I got wise I preferred to steer clear of the entire debacle, holing up with the similarly unattached, far from the puking-shagging crowd.

I did send a valentine once (to christos), way back when by including a note in a book but that's as far as I've gone and Z and I have never celebrated it. Except that today I was still so happy from the aftereffects of my red! Kitchen wall that I got up early to make him lunch for work and included a love note scribbled on a postcard with it. The postcard showed two kittens engaged in what looked like tango and one kitten looking on derisevely. I thought it was appropriate. My love note said: Happy Commercialised and Cliched Day of Crap to my Sweetheart! I love you excessively. Thousands of kisses! Sometimes I am so cynical that I slay myself.

On the other hand, a tradition that I embrace with joy and my whole heart is Pretend We're in Paris Fridays in which we tidy the house, and dress up in order to ply each other with delicacies and drink champagne from the comfort of our sofa. Sometimes there is dancing involved. Sometimes talking. Sometimes the watching of the television. In any case whatever titillation of the senses occurs, I am looking forward to the next installment immensely, especially as it's likely to feature chocolates/flowers bought on sale on February the 15th. Double scoop of goodness! Getting to express my affection, and be consumerist while also waving the middle finger of disdain at Advertising Man!

BUT! For all those of you who are less jaded and celebrate it, then I wish you a wonderful day festooned with as many petals and balloons and sweets as your systems can handle and I hope the sky rains pink fluffy hearts onto your parade.

Hahaha! Indeed! The excessive palor of the kitchen always depressed me immensely.

Next step - convincing Z that our bedroom would look beautiful with an orange wall.

How are you doing?

confession = secret addiction = nicking little dulux colour charts from homebase and clutching them to my heaving bosoms as I dream.

and Z truly is very handy with powertools, I shall find a way to lend him if you need some carpentry done.

:) Thank you, I love coloured walls too! ( A while ago I remember quietly drooling to myself at some of the pictures from your world which featured your lovely colourful flat).

I laughed so heartily at this I felt the need to repeat it to my valentine. She tittered appreciatively.

OO! I love it! Especially with the flowers and the fruit right there.
Your line:
It is a burden being a visionary. Also I think I am aging, for it is more tiring now to bend people to my will.
Oh dear god. It is such a pleasure to read your writing. I laughed hard.

Is "husband" still a novelty word on your lips? :) I've been married almost 10 years and sometimes I still go, wow!

Husband is a weird concept. :) Although it's more strange in Serbian than in English because I've had less practice saying it.

I somehow feel like I am too young to be doing adult things like marriage, and planning families and paying mortage and so on, although I am 26 which is hardly adolescent no matter how much I love internet drama and the colour pink.

On an unrelated note, you should post more pictures of your baby. :)

when 3 years ago alison and me painted the main wall in our living room a very vivid red ( btw to the one asking it is called fireside red by Crown)we thought we were so cool we had to set the thermostat a few degrees higher. I'll have to send you pictures Nina.

Please do. :) I would love to have more bold walls in the house but I am encountering fierce opposition on this issue.

Always very pleased when you turn up. :)
